Bishop Ephraim Maalouli Appointed Metropolitan of Aleppo

Damascus-Syria: The Synod of the Antioch Orthodox Patriarchate has appointed Bishop Ephrem Maalouli as the Metropolitan and head of Aleppo, Alexandretta and their dependencies. The appointment took place since now whereabouts of Archbishop Paul Yazigi remain available nine years after his kidnapping by ISIS militants.
Metropolitan Yohanna Ibrahim of the Syriac Orthodox Church and Archbishop Boulos Yaziji of the Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch were kidnapped in 2013 during the height of the Syrian Civil war by ISIS militants.
