Pope Tawadros II Receives Archbishop Justin Welby of Canterbury

Cairo-Egypt: Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury was received by Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria on the 10th of October 2021. Archbishop Justin Welby is presently on a visit to Egypt to inaugurate the Alexandrian province of the Episcopal Church (Anglican).

In his speech, Justin Welby stated that “We appreciate the Coptic Orthodox Church and appreciate the role played by Anba Angelos, Archbishop of London, who is very influential in Britain, whether in his relationship with the government or the royal family, and I cherish his friendship very much”.

On the other hand, Pope Tawadros congratulated the Anglican Church on establishing its Anglican province, which bears the name of a city that has had a great impact on Christianity since the first centuries.

The Pope further commented that the primary role of the Church is spiritual and then social. Hence, the Church serve our society with love, which presents the teachings of Christ to all, emphasizing his love and appreciation for Egypt as a great country and nation that lives its national unity between Muslims and Copts.
