Episcopal Silver Jubilee Celebration of Mor Dioscorus Benjamin Atas Held

Stockholm-Sweden: Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II of Antioch presided over the Episcopal Silver Jubilee of celebration of Mor Dioscorus Benjamin Atas, Metropolitan and Patriarchal Vicar of Sweden. Several faithful and prelates of the Syriac Orthodox Church gathered for the commemorative event that was held on the 19th of September 2021.

Mor Dioscorus Benjamin Atas was consecrated as a Bishop by the late Patriarch Mor Ignatius Zakka Iwas for Sweden in 1996. He has served as the chairman of the Swedish Christian Council (SKR). Mor Dioscorus Benjamin is readily involved in the cause of persecuted Christians in the Middle East. He has engaged with the Swedish government on several occasions urging the protection of Christian minorities living in Syria and Iraq. He has urged the Turkish government to set up a Truth Commission on Genocide as well.
