Trial Against Bishop Neophytos of Morphou Begins

Nicosia-Cyprus: Court trial against bishop Neophytos of Morphou of the Church of Cyprus began on the 24th of September 2021. Bishop Neophytos is being tried for violating Covid-19 measures. The trial began in his absence since the Bishop was not allowed inside the court for refusing to wear a mask. He also refused to wear a mask during the initial sessions of the trial in August 2021.

He is facing trial for refusing to pay €300, a fine issued against him for organising a public Church service in January 2021. The Bishop who was infected covid, however, stated that he will not issue any statement against the decision of the Synod regarding the vaccine. He refrains from taking from the vaccine which is according to him is genetically modified.
