Metropolitan Mathews Severios Nominated by the Holy Synod as the Successor to Catholicos-Mooppan and Malankara Metropolitan

Kottayam-Kerala-India: Metropolitan Mathews Severios of Kandanad West has been nominated by Holy Synod of the Malankara Church as the successor to the Catholicos-Mooppan and Malankara Metropolitan on the 16th of September 2021. He is expected to succeed the late lamented Catholicos-Mooppan Marthoma Paulose II as the successor to the throne of St. Thomas and as the primate of the Indian Orthodox Malankara Church.

Metropolitan Mathews presently serves as the head of the Kandanad West diocese of the Malankara Church. The Metropolitan holds a BD degree from the Serampore University. He completed higher studies in Theology from the Saint Petersburg Theological Academy Russia. The Prelate finished MTh and PhD from the Oriental Institute, Rome. He was ordained a Metropolitan in 1993.
