Taliban Takeover May Intensify Christian Persecution in Afghanistan

Kabul – Afghanistan: The Taliban take over of Afghan may result in severe persecution of Christians in the country. According to reports, there are several underground Churches in Afghan apart from Christian believers in every province. However, the only legally recognized Christian Center for worship is the Roman Catholic chapel at the Italian Embassy.

Open Doors ranks Afghanistan as the second highest persecutor of Christianity in the world. Most of the foreigners and NGO workers have already left the country.

The Parthian empire which presently lies in the Western Afghanistan region is where St Thomas the Apostle was believed to have preached for a while.
