Finland: The Orthodox Monks of the Valamo monastery (New Valamo/New Valaam) in Finland is selling forest trees to meet ends, reports New India Express.

The monastery used to gain an annual income of $3.5 million. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected the income of the monastery which in turn resulted in the selling of trees from the forest, planted and fostered by the monks over the years.. The Monks have acquired Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) for their timber to sell them at a higher price as well.

Established in 1717, the monastery was located in the present location in 1940. It is the chief centre of Orthodox spirituality in Finland.
