Alleged Destruction of Orthodox Churches in Gondar by the Invading Sudanese Forces

Addis-Ababa Ethiopia: The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church has become a target for internal and external forces again. Reports are coming out of Western Gondar that churches are being burned and destroyed by the invading Sudanese forces on top of the killing of civilians and local militias.

Such atrocities were committed by Mahdist Sudan during the reign of Emperor Yohannes IV in the 19th century. Gondar is a centre of excellence in the traditional oral exegetical and hymnal schools of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church. The main city is where world heritage castles are found.
