Coptic Orthodox Church Backs Egyptian Government to Resolve Nile Dam Crisis

Cairo-Egypt: The Coptic Orthodox Church has issued a statement in support of the Egyptian Government to resolve the Nile Dam crisis.

Pope Tawadros stated that “We support the political leadership’s efforts to find a comprehensive and just solution to the water crisis; one that guarantees the divine right to life for the people of Egypt and their brothers in Sudan,”.

The Primate also stated that “Egypt has given life to the Nile, it has given it a meaning and a legacy driven from the civilisation of the Egyptians. No one has given the Nile like Egypt and the Egyptians have,”.

The Egyptians believe that the spiritual ties between the Coptic and Ethiopian Churches may become a game-changer in the dialogue between the two nations and will culminate in a peaceful and lasting solution.

The ongoing construction of a dam by Ethiopia has resulted in political turmoil between Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia and Djibouti.
