Humanitarian aid from Russian Orthodox Church and Moscow police sent to Ryazan Region

On August 12, 2010, a convoy of trucks with humanitarian aid to victims of wildfires has been sent to the Ryazan Region from the riot police station at Strogino in Moscow. Two trucks are going to the Family Social Service Center in Ryazan and the aid center of the diocese of Ryazan and Kasimov and two more trucks to the Emergency Ministry headquarters in Laskovsky village where about 700 people have been affected by fire.
Before the convoy’s departure, Archimandrite Panteleimon Shatov, head of the Synodal Department for Church Charity and Social Service, thanked the Moscow riot police for help in delivering the aid and noted that many policemen took part in collecting the aid.
There are some 170 volunteers working every day at the department. For 12 days they have sent 140 cars with humanitarian aid to regions. Funds continue to come to the department’s bank account. One of the largest donations has been made by St. Sergius’s Laura of the Trinity. The Fund of Assistance to the Russian Church Abroad has transferred 5 thousand dollars. According to Father Panteleimon, reports about all the donations received are given promptly at the Department’s website. The money and articles received will be distributed to victims of wildfires.
As of today, the Department needs volunteers for work with databases (Word, Excel) on homeless victims of fires.
