Report on Alleged Rape of Nuns by Eritrean Soldiers in Wukro Town – Tigray

Tigray-Ethiopia: The most recent report by Europe External Programme with Africa – EEPA (EPA HORN No. 99 – 08 March 2021) states that nuns (Orthodox Christian?) were abused and raped by Eritrean Soldiers in Wuko Town. The report reads, “Nuns of a monastery were raped by Eritrean troops in Wukro Town”. No further information is obtainable on the alleged incident. Wukro Town is located in the Eastern zone of the Tigray region and is home to the famous Wukro Chirkos monolithic Orthodox church.
Sexual Violence in Tigray: Another War Waged on Women and Girls?
Widespread abuses and rape of women and girls by the Eritrean armed forces have been reported from various part of the Tigriyan region as part of the on-going conflict with the federal government. The Eritrean Army has implemented rape as a tool to morally and physically degrade the female residents in the Tigray region. In November 2020, more than 750 people were massacred in Axum by the intruding Eritrean soldiers.
