The US Embassy Helps Preserving the Iconic Jvari Orthodox Monastery in Georgia

Tiblisi-Georgia: The maintenance and preservation of the sixth-century Jvari Georgian Orthodox monastery near Mtskheta in eastern Georgia have been catered by the Embassy of the United States of America.

The monastery is a certified World Heritage site by UNESCO. The US Embassy in Georgia has pumped in more than $500,000 for preserving various structures of the Jvari Monastery. Moreover, an additional fund of  $100,000 was donated in 2019.

Kelly Degnan, the U.S. Ambassador to Georgia recently stated that the US government is extremely proud to support Georgia to preserve its religious and cultural monuments.

The Jvari Monastery Church is a classic example of the early medieval Georgian Orthodox Churches that has survived the tests of times. It has played an important role in the religious life of Georgian Orthodox Christians.
