PASTORAL AND SOCIAL PROGRAMME IN TIME OF CRISIS

strong>THE PRESS OFFICE OF THE ROMANIAN PATRIARCHATE informs us:

During the weekly working session of 17 June 2010, held in the Synodal Room of the Patriarchal Residence under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, the Standing Meeting of the Church National Council decided that the Romanian Patriarchate should present a pastoral and social programme in time of economical crisis to be debated and approved by the Holy Synod in its working session of 6 – 7 July 2010.

Besides the 335 social-charitable programmes the Romanian Orthodox Church unfolded so far at national level, the pastoral and social programme in time of economical crisis proposed by the Romanian Patriarchate will have three main branches:
– helping aged families with low pensions;
– helping the poor families with many children and low income;
– helping the poor sick people.

This pastoral and social programme of the Romanian Patriarchate will be implemented at the parish, monastery, deanery and eparchial centre level by organising new charitable canteens, getting donations of food, clothing, other products strictly necessary as well as money in order to help the social categories most affected by the economical crisis in Romania.
