Konat Geevarghese Mar Yulios – Episcopo Khadmoyo d’Thumpamon – New Book Published

Malankara-Kerala-India: The first biography of Metropolitan Konat Geevarghese Mar Yulios of blessed memory ever to be published was launched on January 18, 2019. The book is titled “Konat Geevarghese Mar Yulios – Episcopo Khadmoyo d’Thumpamon” (which is in Syriac, meaning the first Bishop of Thumpamon).

Mar Yulios, hailing from the ancient Konat family, was consecrated as the first bishop of the Thumpamon diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Church, which was one of the 7 dioceses formed in 1876. A great scholar in Syriac language and Orthodox theology and traditions, Mar Yulios played a significant role in teaching the priesthood aspirants of Malankara Church including prominent figures like St. Gregorios of Parumala.

The biography, written by Mr. Tibin Chacko Thevervelil is the author’s fourth book and contains relevant articles written by eminent authors including Varghese John Thottpuzha as well. The book was launched by His Grace Dr. Thomas Mar Athanasius, Metropolitan of Kandanad East, on the annual feast day of Thumpamon diocese’s cathedral. In his speech, the author emphasized the importance of keeping alive the legacy of Mar Yulios by dedicating new projects of the diocese to his blessed memory.
