United Kingdom: Dr. David G.K. Taylor (Associate Professor of Aramaic and Syriac, Fellow of Wolfson College – Oxford University) stated that those who deny the tradition of St. Thomas denies Apostolic tradition. Professor David was speaking at a conference organized by the Syro-Malabar Uniate Catholic Church at the Bethel Convention Center, Birmingham, United Kingdom. Mar George Alencherry (Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church and the Metropolitan of the Major Archeparchy of Ernakulam-Angamaly) honored Dr. Taylor and Dr. Sebastian Brock (Retired Reader, Syriac Studies- Faculty of Oriental Studies- University of Oxford) at the conference.
Dr. David said that those who deny the tradition of St. Thomas (in relation to the Syriac Churches in India), indeed deny the Apostolic tradition. A large number of ancient texts and literature contains massive details on the apostolic journey of St. Thomas and his ministry in India. Researchers of Oxford and many other leading Universities have published their research findings on the history of the Apostolic ministry of St. Thomas in India.
St. Thomas Christians are Christians from Kerala who trace their origins to the apostolic ministry of St. Thomas. Presently they organized under various jurisdictions (Oriental Orthodox, Eastern Catholic, Assyrian, Anglican, and Protestant).
The Primate of the Malankara Orthodox Church (Orthodox Syrian Church of the East) is the Chief of the Office of the Catholicate of the East, who is seated on the Apostolic Throne of St. Thomas. His Holiness Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Paulose II is the current Catholicos on the Apostolic Throne of St. Thomas in the East and the Metropolitan of Malankara.

The Catholicos of the east doesn’t have any disagreement with the holy throne of St.Peter. It is the holy throne of Antioch that denies the priesthood of St.Thomas.

The frustration of members of the Malankara Uniate Church of the Syriac Orthodox Church (also known as Malankara Jacobite Church) is understandable.
Mr. Geevargheses said it right. The Catholicos of the East doesn’t have any “disagreement” with the Syriac Patriarch of Antioch. What the Catholicos doesn’t agree with are the Patriarch’s claims of subordination and unreasonable imperial motives.
For those of you still believing that the Syriac Patriarchate of Antioch has had uninterrupted succession from St. Peter, it is time to wake up and seriously study some actual Church history instead of the fake history taught by your blind guides. Please know that during the time of St. Jacob Baradaeus (Yakob Burdono), the succession/lineage of Patriarchs that started from St. Peter terminated in the Syriac Orthodox Church (then the non-Chalcedonian faction of the Church of Antioch). THEN, ST. JACOB BARADAEUS WAS CONSECRATED BISHOP BY THE COPTIC POPE THEODOSIUS, thereby solving the absence of High-Priesthood in the non-Chalcedonian faction of Antioch. Jacob Baradaeus went on to consecrate the next Syriac Patriarch of Antioch an several bishops.
The key thing to note here is that Coptic Pope is the Patriarch of Alexandria on the Apostolic Throne of St. Mark. If a Church accepting the help of another Church in this way should become subordinate to that Church, then Jacob Baradaeus receiving Bishop consecration from Coptic Patriarch should mean that the Syriac Orthodox Church should be under the Coptic Patriarchate now, right? This example alone is enough to reveal the double standard of Jacobite extremists who yell at the top of their voice that Malankara should be subordinate to Antioch, while Antioch (non-Chalcedonian) itself should have been subordinate to Coptic Pope by their logic. All Malankara did was seek the help of the Syriac Church to counter the Portuguese (Catholic) and British (Protestant) invasions in Malankara. Note that before 1660s, there was absolutely no relationship between Malankara and Antioch. Prior to that, the only foreign Church that Malankara interacted with was the Persian/Chaldean Church, which is the sister Church in St. Thomas tradition. With the beginning of Portuguese rule, this interaction was politically stifled, leaving Malankara with no other option but to seek the help of other sister Orthodox Churches. Malankara is always thankful to the Patriarchate of Antioch for their help, but THANKFULNESS DOESN’T MEAN SLAVERY. When will you hypocrites wake up?
