OCP News Service – 22/8/18
Malankara-Kerala-India: Orthodox Christians (Malankara Orthodox and Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Churches) in Kerala (Malankara) alongside other volunteers took an active role in Kerala flood relief efforts. Both Churches opened several relief camps and sorting centers and collected mass amounts of food, clothes and other necessary materials.
They also provided financial support for the victims of the devastating floods (that killed more than 350 people across the state). The Churches were also successful in mobilizing logistics and material support from the diaspora as well. Youth and spiritual organizations of Syriac and Malankara Churches continue to serve the victims of the flood.
His Holiness Baselios Paulose II (Catholicos on the Apostolic Throne of St. Thomas and Malankara Metropolitan) visited several relief camps. Prelates of the Syriac Orthodox Church visited several camps as well. His Beatitude Abune Thomas I of the Syriac Orthodox Church made a prayerful appeal to help people in distress.
