St. Rayko Shumenski was famous goldsmith and you can say he is Martyr: Metropolitan Bishop
13/5/2010
Sofia. The Orthodox Church marks the day of Saint Rayko Shumenski on Friday. Speaking in an interview with FOCUS News Agency, metropolitan bishop Kiril says Saint Rayko Shumenski is a Bulgarian orthodox Christian and famous craftsman – a young goldsmith who was making golden jewelries. Metropolitan bishop Kiril tells that in 1802 a local Muslim ordered the goldsmith to make some jewelries.
“When Rayko Shumenski went to the Muslim’s home, one of the wives opened the door. Rayko Shumenski was young and she liked him and wanted to take him to her room, but he refused. She started screaming and accused him of assaulting her. Then the Muslim promised him he would not penalize him if he converted to Islam,” says metropolitan bishop Kiril.
Rayko Shumenski denied everything and insisted he would not convert to Islam. He was even tortured, but did not give up his religion, he says further and notes St. Rayko Shumenski could be declared a martyr.
