UOC representatives participated in a conference dedicated to the 90th anniversary of National Cancer Institute

On May 12 the National Cancer Institute celebrates its 90th anniversary. In this view the international academic research conference themed “Oncology: past, present and future” was conducted in Kyiv.
Before the conference began its work, the participants called to the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, where they met with representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
The guests were greeted by the UOC administrator, Archbishop Metrophanes of Bila Tserrkva and Bohuslav, Bishop Hilary of Makariv, chairman of the Synodal Department “Mission Church and Culture” archpriest Hennadiy Batenko and rector of the Church of Sts Kosma and Damian at the Institute of Cancer Yevheniy Mileshkin.
In the course of conversation the sides discussed the issues of cooperation between the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the state in medical branch.
Taking part in the conference on the part of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church were Bishop Hilary of Makariv and archpriest Hennadiy Batenko. In particular, His Grace read out the greeting word to the conference participants and organizers by His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr.
Also with the blessing of the UOC Primate Bishop Hilary conferred the order of the Holy and Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir on director of the Institute of Cancer Igor Shchepotin.
The National Cancer Institute is a chief research institution that defined to a high extent the strategy of the state oncology service. For his many-year history the institute made significant contribution to the development of the national and world science in the field of oncology.
