Translated by Nadezhda Filipchik for OCP News Service – 6/01/17
On the 15th of January, young Orthodox Christians in Belarusians will gather in the capital city of Minsk to take part in one of the greatest cultural events of the year – the 9th Minsk ball of Orthodox Christian youth, also known as “The pearls of times”.
This year the ball program will include more than 30 dances, live music, and lots of other surprises. The ball will begin with the polonaise of the debutantes and debutantes (this tradition is adopted by the ball organizers from the traditional balls in Vienna). The ball game participants will have the chance to dance various waltzes together with polkas, quadrilles, and other versions.
The preparation for the ball has started on the 9th of October when 50 dance couples gathered for the first rehearsal of the season. During the three months of preparations, ball participants managed to improve their skill of dancing, learned new dance moves and also attended the workshops on the ball etiquette.
The Orthodox Christian Youth ball is widely known all across the country as well as abroad. It is an outstanding cultural event which reinstates the traditions of the Belarussian balls and has the best features of the Vienna Opera Ball. Every year the ball becomes more elegant and the ball etiquette’s get stricter. Tet the number of the ball participants still grows bigger. In 2015, more than 800 people took part in the ballgame event.
