VICTIMS OF THE TERROR ACT COMMEMORATED AT ST. NICHOLAS’S IN NICE

On July 17, 2016, Bishop Nestor of Chersonese, who came to Nice in connection with the tragic events, which took place in the city on the night of July 15, celebrated the Sunday Divine Liturgy and after it a requiem service for the victims of the barbaric terrorist act committed in the city.
He was assisted by Archpriest Andrey Yeliseyev, rector of the St. Nicholas’s Cathedral, Rev. Maxim Potapov, secretary of the diocesan administration, Rev. Ioann Gautier, rector of the church of Our Lady of Kazan in Marseilles, Archpriest Sergiy Kapitan of the diocese of Turov, Rev. Anoniy Odaisky of the Russian Church Outside Russia, and Protodeacon Ioann Buzdugan.
After the service, Bishop Nestor addressed the congregation, calling the faithful at the moment of trial to keep the presence of mind and trust in God and commemorated in prayer the cathedral’s reader Igor Selesko as well as Natalia Otto and Roman Ekmalyan, parishioners of the church of the Holy Nativity in Antwerp, who were killed that night.
Archpriest Andrey Yeliseyev shared his memories of the victims who were his close friends.
At present, a center for aid to the victims’ relatives has been opened at the St. Nicholas Cathedral. The clergy give spiritual support and organizational assistance to all who need it. As of today, five Russian-speaking visitors to Nice are still missing, the website of the diocese of Chersonese reports.
