The Western American Diocese Will Mark the 50th Anniversary of the Repose of Saint John the Wonderworker

“Consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants” (Leviticus 25:10).
The Western American Diocese is announces the 50th Anniversary from the repose of our Father among the Saints JOHN Archbishop of Shanghai and San Francisco the Wonderworker from June 30 to July 2, 2016.
His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion is scheduled to preside over the solemn Divine Services in honor of Saint John’s memory, accompanied by the members of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, other hierarchs and local and guest clergy.
A symposium entitled “St. John and His Legacy” will be sponsored by the Saints Cyril and Athanasius of Alexandria Institute for Orthodox Studies prior to the celebrations. Detailed information about the symposium’s sessions, which will include speakers who knew St. John personally, will be published in the near future.
Schedule of St. John’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations:
THURSDAY, June 30
4:00 pm – Daily Vespers and Matins, transfer of reliquary to the center of the cathedral
6:00 pm – Akathist to St. John before his relics
7:30 pm – Opening session of the Symposium: “St. John and His Legacy” (Russian Scout House hall)
FRIDAY, July 1
8:00 am – Daily Divine Liturgy
10:30 am – 4:00 pm – Two sessions of the Symposium “St. John and His Legacy” (Russian Scout House hall), one meal
5:00 pm – Confessions
6:00 pm – Vigil
SATURDAY, July 2
12:00 midnight – early Divine Liturgy
9:00 am – Greeting of the Metropolitan, Divine Liturgy, Molieben with Procession
2:00 pm – Luncheon at the Russian Center (advance reservations required)
