Tourists from Romania Flock to Bulgaria and Greece for Easter
19/3/2010
Over 10,000 Romanian tourists are expected to spend the upcoming Easter holidays abroad, mostly in Bulgaria and Greece, attracted by affordable prices, charter flights and hidden destinations.
Bulgaria and Greece “are destinations that are close to Romania, which are attractive in terms of prices and they are also Eastern Orthodox countries,” Traian Badulescu, spokesman for Romania’s National Association of Travel Agencies said, quoted by the Romanian newspaper Capital.
The most attractive offers in terms of the relation between price and quality are for Bulgaria. According to the publication, prices in Bulgaria for the mini-break range between 77 euro for an “all inclusive” stay in a three-star hotel to a maximum of 200 euro for a five-star hotel.
“The Bulgarians surprise us again. This year they have rates reduced by up to 20 per cent, because they want to fill their hotels. In addition, they also introduced a bonus system, including – for example, free accommodation for children,” Badulescu explained.
On the other hand, Romanian tourist agencies expect around 100,000 Romanians to stick to local resorts for the Eastern holidays. They, according to the publication, have also decreased their prices by 20 per cent compared to 2009. For example, Bran – which boasts the infamous Dracula castle, a three-day vacation costs around 51 euro, while in the Bukovina region in the northern part of the country, prices reach 300 euro for a five-day stay, including breakfast, a carriage ride and a egg-decoration demonstration.
This year, in what is a relatively rare case, the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Catholic and Protestant churches celebrate Easter on the same date – Sunday, April 4.
