Egypt: Heavy rains and sweeping floods in Wadi Al Natrun area has caused unprecedented damages in four historic monasteries: Anba Bishoy, Al Surian, Al Baramos and Saint Macarius the Great monasteries. These historic monasteries date back to the 4th century A.D and are considered destinations of antiquity.

Floods unleashed torrents causing some ancient domes at Al Surian Monastery to collapse while filling the shrine of St Moses the Black holding his relics at Al Baramos Monastery. In Anba Bishoy Monastery, flooding caused part of the walls surrounding the monastery to cave in.

This flood has caused extensive architectural damage in all of these ancient monasteries. Numerous vehicles were also damaged. The value of losses is in the millions of dollars. The loss of history of these destinations of antiquity is priceless.

This is a great disaster to which all of us Copts need to come together and rebuild the walls as prophet Nehemiah said: “The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding.” Please look at the pictures and open your heart when donating as our priceless monasteries are in crisis.

You can help these monasteries rebuild by donating on CopticWorld’s Global Tithing Platform. Choose the category of “Mother Church”. All donations going to the “Mother Church” will go towards this cause.
