Large Number of Filipinos Join Orthodox Church : Mass Baptism Held

April- May 2015

Philippine Orthodox Church – Moscow Patriarchate

With Great Joy and Gladness, we would like to announce the reception of 200 former Aglipayan (Philippine Independent Catholic Church)  faithfuls to the bossom of the Orthodox Church under the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate. This 200 newly baptized Filipino Orthodox Christians comes from the following places:

April 18, 2015-We baptized 17 catechumens from Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Mission in Purok 1, Brgy. San Pedro, Kiblawan, Davao del Sur. Since we have already 6 Orthodox Christians in the area, now it has a total of 23 Orthodox faithful.

April 19, 2015-We baptized 140 catechumens after more than a year of catechism in the former “Our Lady of Guidance Parish” of the Philippine Independent Catholic Church. Now it becomes as the “Holy Protection of the Theotokos Orthodox Church”. Since the Moscow Patriarchate had not yet ordain Filipinos to Orthodox priesthood, Fr. Silouan of ROCOR is invited to serve as an interim priest.

April 24, 2015-We baptized 43 catechumens after more than a year of catechism in the former “San Isidro Labrador Parish” of the Philippine Independent Catholic Church. This now becomes as the “St. Isidore [of Rostov] the Wonderworker Orthodox Church”.

The baptism was performed by the head of the mission of the Moscow Patriarchate Fr. Kiril, while Fr. Silouan of ROCOR assisted the baptisms in Kiblawan and Polomolok.

These parishes are received first than other Aglipayan parishes due to some reasons. Thousands of catechumens and dozens of Aglipayan parishes are still under instruction and is set to be receive in the following months.
