Catholicos of All Armenians Received Winners of Pontifical Scholarship Award
On February 9, in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; received three University level students of the Republic of Armenia: Yervand Mkrtchyan – Komitas State Conservatory; Ani Ginosyan – Theatre and Film State Institute; and Ani Yeremyan – Yerevan Mkhitar Heratsi State Medical University. The students were previously announced as the recipients of a Pontifical Scholarship, for the high achievements earned during their studies.
The initiative to encourage distinguished students in their scholastic advancement is one of the successive steps of effective cooperation between the Armenian Church and the Ministry of Education and Science.
During the meeting, Rev. Fr. Karekin Hambardzumyan, Deputy Director of the Christian Education Center of the Mother See; presented the scholarship recipients to His Holiness. Each student extended heart felt words and gratitude, at the same time assuring His Holiness that the caring attitude of the Armenian Church is binding, and will contribute to their learning.
The Catholicos of All Armenians extended his blessings and appreciation to the youth, conveying to each the Pontifical Scholarship. His Holiness joyfully welcomed the students and noted with confidence that it inspires hope to be a scholarship recipient, and that the honor of being the best student is encouraging, and they must continue to acquire knowledge with the same diligence, and in the future, offer great service to the public with their professional skills. The Catholicos of All Armenians noted that the visit to the Mother See will provide an opportunity to reflect on their character and goals, and will serve to reinforce their will; providing an opportunity to add to the history of our glorious past.
During the meeting they also reflected on the close ties and joint initiatives between the Gevorkian Theological Seminary and various educational institutions of Armenia, which have resulted in a positive impact on the student’s spirit and the responsible mission of character-building.
The meeting was attended by His Grace Bishop Gevork Saroyan, Director of the Spiritual and Educational Institutions of the Mother See and Dean of the Gevorkian Theological Seminary.
