Catholicos Baselios Paulose II welcomes dialogue with the Syriac Orthodox Church

India/Kerala/Kottayam: His Holiness Baselios Paulose II Patriarch – Catholicos on the Apostolic Throne of St Thomas and Malankara Metropolitan have welcomed dialogue with the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch and All East.

Catholics stated that he is pleased to wholeheartedly cooperate with the peace initiatives of Patriarch Ignatius Aphrem II.

Prior to the apostolic visit, a formal letter of welcome was send by the Catholicos to the Patriarch wishing him prayers and success in Malankara. The letter has played an important role in making positive developments.

The Synod of the Syriac Orthodox has already appointed five member committee to begin discussions with the Indian Orthodox Malankara Church. The members of the Committee are their Eminences Metropolitan’s Mor Gregorious Joseph, Mor Themotheos Thomas, Mor Athanasius Geevarghese, Mor Theophilos Kuriakose and Mor Coorilose Geevarghese.

Further declarations are expected form the office of the Catholicos after having consultation with various church committees.

    Backtracked? The Catholicos?
    I wonder why some people consider it perfectly alright for H H the Patriarch to vow not to enter churches under dispute, and then do the opposite. But when H H the Catholicos responds to that, people call it ‘backtracking’. What hypocrisy is this!
