An Orthodox church robbed in Haifa
January 2015
Attacks on Christian houses of worship in the Holy Land are continuing. This time an Orthodox church in the jurisdiction of the Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem was robbed, reports the Arabs48 news portal.
According to media reports, on Saturday, January 10, unidentified people broke into the Church of St. John the Baptist and tried to desecrate the temple, destroying or damaging the candles, icons, liturgical books and lecterns that they found. The vandals also smashed a special alms-box and stole all the donations of the parishioners.
In the morning of January 12, Father Dimitry (Sammara), dean of the Haifa district, arrived at the site of the incident. On filing an application with law-enforcement agencies, he helped volunteers and parishioners put the inside of the church in order. It has been reported that for security reasons all the church locks were replaced within one day.
