CELEBRATION OF THE ORTHODOX NEW YEAR IN SERBIA

In Serbia, where the majority of population consists of Orthodox Christians, the New Year is celebrated tonight, according to the Julian calendar. Celebrations will be organized in all major cities, including those in Kosmet. The Liturgy of St. Basil the Great will be served tomorrow in all temples of the Serbian Orthodox Church. The police appeal on citizens to refrain from celebrating with firearms and endangering the public safety, stated spokesperson of the Kosmet Police Service Besim Hoti. The Orthodox New Year is also marked by the Russian and Georgian Churches, as well as on the Holy Mount. The Circumcision of Jesus Christ is celebrated on January 1, according to Julian calendar, i.e. January 14 in the Gregorian one, which is one of the holidays that explain the essence of the Christian faith and passion of Christ.
