Missile hitting Orthodox church in Slavyansk strengthens local wish to leave city
Donetsk, June 9, Interfax – The wish of Slavyansk residents to leave the city has increased after a missile hit a local Orthodox church on June 8, Slavyansk militia told Interfax.
“Yesterday a mortar hit the Orthodox church. One person died and many were wounded. This happened namely on the holy day [Trinity Day], when most civilians came to pray for peace,” Slavyansk militia representative told on Monday.
According to the militia representative, an even larger withdrawal of citizens from Slavyansk started after this because “they realized that neither a bomb shelter nor a holy place, church, will save them.”
“There are queues at checkpoints again. People are fleeing the city but the army is turning them back,” the Slavyansk militia representative said.
