Eastern Orthodox – Oriental Orthodox Churches Concilliar Unity – May 2014
Global: The year 2014 marks the Fifty fifth anniversary of the historic meeting between Patriarch Athenagoras and Metropolitan Paulose Gregorious of India.
In 1959 Ecumenical Patriarch Athenagoras received Deacon Paul Varghese (Later Fr Paul Varghese , also Late lamented Paulose Gregorious of the East- Metropolitan of the Delhi Diocese of the Indian Malankara Orthodox Church) young theologian from India who belonged to the Oriental Orthodox family of Churches. Patriarch Athenagoras wanted to restore Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox Unity at the earliest. Patriarch told Fr Paul ” By the close of this year we must achieve unity, we should not wait”.
Even though there was a lot of effort form both sides to restore unity, due to several reasons, the concilliar unity between both families of Churches remain a great dream unrealized.
LET US ALL WORK AND PRAY FOR ORTHODOX UNITY.
