Georgian opposition offers to build church instead of parliament at the site of the demolished Glory Memorial
Tbilisi, December 21, Interfax – Representatives of the Kutaisi Mayor Office placed a banner at the site of the exploded Memorial of Glory saying that a building of Georgian parliament would be built here in 2012.
Georgian opposition has a different standpoint on this plot of land.
“It would be more reasonable and human to build a church instead of the demolished Glory Memorial that indeed needed reconstruction and dedicate the church to the perished warriors and mother and daughter Jintcharadze killed by the explosion yesterday,” Vice Speaker of the Parliament and leader of the oppositional Christian Democratic Party of Georgia Levan Vepkhvadze said on Sunday visiting Kutaisi.
According to him, it is blasphemous to place this banner at the site of the recent tragedy.
Oppositionists urged Kutaisi citizens to take to the streets on December 21 and protest against destruction of the Glory Memorial.
