Metropolitan Mar Yulios begins visit to Ethiopian Orthodox Church, to hold liturgy with Patriarch

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia – Ahmedabad Diocese Metropolitan HG Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios will be leading an Indian Malankara Orthodox delegation to the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church for its Epiphany service on January 19, Sunday.
This will be the Orthodox Metropolitan’s maiden visit to Ethiopia and is scheduled from January 16 till January 24.
The highlight of the visit will be meeting with His Holiness Abune Mathias I, the 6th Patriarch and Catholicos of Ethiopia, Archbishop of Axum and Ichege of the See of Saint Taklehaimanot. Dr Mar Yulios will hold divine liturgy with the Patriarch.
The Metropolitan is also being invited to deliver lectures to the seminarians at the reputed Holy Trinity Theological College.
Dr Fr Jossy Jacob, faculty and Director of Post-graduate programme at the Holy Trinity Theological College, will be the guide for Dr Mar Yulios during his nine-day visit. The Metropolitan is also scheduled to visit several Orthodox churches in Addis Ababa.
The Holy Trinity Theological College has been contributing lot to the modernisation of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church through theological, management and leadership training.
Dr Mar Yulios will have several interactions with the seminarians, academicians and study the system at the Theological College.
The Indian Orthodox Church is in communion with the Oriental Orthodox Churches namely Ethiopian, Antiochene, Alexandrian, Armenian and Eritrean Churches.
The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church is the predominant Oriental Orthodox Christian church in the African Continent . It is the second largest Orthodox Church in the world next to the Russian Orthodox Church with more than 45 million faithful .
