St. Tikhon’s Monastery to host 109th annual pilgrimage

The 109th Memorial Day Pilgrimage to St. Tikhon’s Monastery/Seminary in Waymart will begin Friday at 3:45 p.m. when Metropolitan Tikhon greets visiting hierarchs at the Monastery Archway.
Metropolitan Hilarion, the first hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, will concelebrate the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy beginning at 10 a.m. on Memorial Day, May 27, at the bell tower, with Metropolitan Tikhon, Archbishop Benjamin of the West, Bishop Michael of New York and New Jersey, and Bishop Mark of Baltimore. Liturgy on Saturday and Sunday, May 26, will begin with the greeting of the hierarchs at 9 a.m.
St. Tikhon’s Seminary, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, will conduct its commencement Saturday at 1 p.m. This is the 75th anniversary year of the seminary.
The Very Rev. Daniel Donilick, the former academic dean, will speak. A banquet follows at 4 p.m., in St. Michael’s Center in Jermyn.
The Miraculous Icon of St. Anna will be venerated throughout the pilgrimage, according to St. Tikhon spokesman, the Rev. John Kowalczyk. The Miraculous Icon wept myrrh for five years.
“Pilgrims from around the country who have a special devotion to St. Anna will be present,” Father Kowalczyk said, adding that “Pilgrims from our area are also encouraged to attend.”
Events are open to the public. Ethnic foods and religious goods will be available for purchase.
The schedule for the weekend includes:
Friday
– 3:30 p.m. official opening of the 109th Pilgrimage, greeting of the Hierarchs at the Monastery Archway with Molieben in the church.
– 4 p.m. vespers and matins in the Monastery Church Dinner in the monastery dining hall follows the services.
Saturday
– 9 a.m. Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, followed by a meal in the monastery dining hall.
– 1 p.m. 71st annual academic commencement of Saint Tikhon’s Theological Seminary.
– 4:30 p.m. resurrection vigil in the monastery church, dinner in the monastery dining hall follows the services.
Sunday, May 26
– 9 a.m. Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, , followed by a meal for in the monastery dining hall
– 4 p.m. vespers and matins in the monastery church.
Monday, May 27
– 7:30 a.m. Divine Liturgy – monastery church.
– 10 a.m. Hierarchical Divine Liturgy.
– Noon veterans Panihida and memorial service, All Saints bell tower.
– 1:30 p.m. akathist to St. Alexis Toth in the monastery church.
– 2:30 p.m. molieben to the Most Holy Theotokos and anointing of the sick, infirm and all pilgrims at the monastery bell tower.
– 4 p.m. vespers and matins in the monastery church.
