Lukashenko attends opening of St. Hovhannes Church in Armenia’s Abovyan
YEREVAN, 15 May (BelTA) – President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko attended the opening of St. Hovhannes Church in the Armenian town of Abovyan on 14 May, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian head of state attended the Service of Consecration of the church held by Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians. The event was also attended by President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, former President Robert Kocharyan and leader of the political party Prosperous Armenia Gagik Tsarukyan. After the service Presidents Alexander Lukashenko and Serzh Sargsyan lit candles in the church.
St. Hovhannes Church is situated in Abovyan downtown. It is built of red and orange tuff and decorated with incised ornaments and bas-reliefs of saints. The church is situated on a picturesque hill. The town of Abovyan is 16km far from Yerevan. It is the satellite town of the Armenian capital.
