Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina elected as the Old Orthodox Bishop of Rome

Vatican/Global: Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina has been elected as the Old Orthodox Bishop or Rome or Bishop on 13th March 2013. He will be known by the name Pope Francis I. He is the first ever Jesuit Pope.

The Roman Catholic Church was in communion with the Orthodox Church until the great schism. It is one of the five ancient Orthodox Patriarchates of the Christian world, but sadly fall out of communion from rest of the sister Orthodox Patriarchates over a number of key theological and historical reasons. Orthodox Churches consider Pope as the Bishop of Rome and respect him with Primacy of honor (this can be only cannonically valid once the Roman Catholic Church return back to the original Orthodox communion) but completely reject all additional teaching of Roman Church including Papal infallibility.

(Reuters) – Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina was elected pope on Wednesday to lead the Roman Catholic Church, a prelate announced to huge crowds gathered in St. Peter’s Square.

He took the name Pope Francis, the cardinal said.

Cardinals elected Bergoglio on just the second day of a secret conclave to find a successor to Pope Benedict, who abdicated unexpectedly last month.
