Statement by Patriarchate of Georgia
There have actively been lead discussions on constitutional changes, and a target commission has been formed recently. Some politicians have proposed to involve representatives of the Patriarchate of Georgia into the commission.
The Patriarchate of Georgia states that the Constitutional Agreement between the State and Church signed after general discussions, and the statuses the Agreement determines for Church is totally respectful and acceptable for us. We shall consider unacceptable any revision or amendments, hereof or in future, to the Agreement even in case of any constitutional changes occur in the country. As for the involvement of Church into discussions on other constitutional or legal issues seems unreasonable since the process shall be developed with some political debates and Church is apolitical institution. Church shall remain neutral in order to exercise the most important obligation and be the real unifier of the nation. All of us shall contribute to that.
