Pope Benedict XVI agrees with Russian Church on Pussy Riot
Moscow, October 17, Interfax – Pope Benedict XVI agrees with the Moscow Patriarchate’s evaluation of the stunt carried out by the punk group Pussy Riot in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.
The issue was addressed in the meeting between Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, the head of the Synodal Department for External Church Relations, with the Pope in Vatican on Tuesday.
“Pope Benedict XVI expressed his solidarity with the position of the Russian Orthodox Church on this issue and its surprise by the reaction of some media organizations to these events,” the synodal department reported on its website.
The Pope also wished Patriarch Kirill God’s help and success, the report says.
Metropolitan Hilarion met with the Pope during his visit to Rome as an observer in the Synod of Bishops.
