Willoughby mayor Pat Reilly made the announcement at Monday’s council meeting.
He said it was fitting the council honour the contribution His Eminence had made to the Willoughby area: “Council wants to see this happen given the man’s been a pioneer of extending not only the Armenian community in the area but their culture.
“He’s been very much a strong supporter of Australian-Armenian relationships.”
The Primate of the Armenian Church of Australia and New Zealand died suddenly on September 22, aged 66, after residing in Chatswood and Willoughby for a number of years.
More than 600 people came to the funeral last Thursday at the Armenian Apostolic Church of Holy Resurrection in Chatswood.
