Solemn Meeting of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church
In the Aula Magna ‘Patriarch Teoctist’ of the Patriachate’s Palace, today, October 28, 2009, under the presidency of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, the members of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church have met in solemn meeting. The theme of this assembly, broadcast live by the TRINITAS TV and radio stations, is ‘The Memorial Year 2009 of St. Basil the Great, Archbishop of Caesarea Cappadocia and of All Cappadocian Saints in the Romanian Patriarchate.’ The meeting was opened by the Primate of the Romanian Orthodox Church, who spoke of the main theme and of the 650th anniversary of the Metropolitanate of Wallachia.
The most important events organized this year in the Romanian Patriarchate, dedicated to St. Basil the Great and to the other Cappadocian Saints, were subsequently summarized by His Grace Ciprian, Patriarchal Vicar and Secretary of the Holy Synod.
Next, His Grace Varsanufie, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Bucharest, has summarized the history of the Metropolitanate of Wallachia and presented the main events organized by the Archdiocese of Bucharest dedicated to the 650th anniversary of the Metropolitanate of Wallachia.
Several books were launched, including the ‘Theology and Spirituality’ volume, written by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, which is a new edition of the Doctorate Thesis presented thirty years ago at the University of Strasbourg, on June 15, 1979. The solemn meeting of the Holy Synod was followed by the inauguration of two photography exhibitions.
