On his birthday, October 29, 2009, His Holiness Patriarch Maxim of Bulgaria consecrated a new church dedicated to St. Marina.

After that he celebrated the Divine Liturgy in this church with the vast confluence of people. The service was attended by the Bulgarian government and parliament members. Among the congregation was Russian Ambassador Yu. Isakov.

After the service, Metropolitan Neofit of Ruse extended congratulations to His Beatitude on behalf of the clergy and faithful of the Bulgarian Church.

Hieromonk Zotik (Gaevsky), acting treasurer of the Russian Orthodox Church Representation in Sofia, read out congratulatory messages from His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and Archbishop Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations.
