At the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest, on the occasion of the feast day of its patron saint, St. Demetrios the New of Basarabi, Protector of Bucharest, the holy relics of six saints are being placed in a foyer adjacent to the holy place. His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel celebrated a Te Deum service upon the arrival of the procession with the six saints, attended by several bishops and hundreds of priests.

The hand of St. Basil the Great was brought from Greece by Most Rev. Basil, Metropolitan of Elassona, the representative of the Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church on this special occasion. Also, the holy relics of St. Gregory the Theologian were brought from the St. Spyridon – New Church in Bucharest and those of St. Gregory of Nyssa, the brother of St. Basil, from Lady Balasa Church. The holy relics of St. Demetrios the New of Basarabi and those of Holy Emperors Constantine and his mother Helen were brought from the Patriarchal Cathedral.

The presence of the holy relics of St. Basil the Great, of St. Gregory the Theologian and of St. Gregory of Nyssa on this year’s feast of St. Demetrios the New of Basarabi, Protector of Bucharest, is part of the events occasioned by the celebration, in the Romanian Patriarchate, of the Memorial Year of St. Basil the Great, Archbishop of Caesarea Cappadocia and of all Cappadocian Saints.
