‘Orthodox’ pilgrims stopped at airport

IMMIGRATION authorities stopped the departure of 19 overseas Filipino workers who attempted to leave for Italy on the pretext that they were invited to represent Orthodox Christians in the 7th World Families Meeting in Milan, Italy.
Immigration Commissioner Ricardo David said the group tried to leave for Italy on May 16 accompanied by an unidentified man who claimed to be an archbishop of the Orthodox Catholic Church in the Philippines who, they said, was the one who facilitated their travel to Italy.
But when immigration officials sought the archbishop for questioning, the latter disappeared and it turned out that the group were not really Orthodox Christians but Roman Catholics. The purported archbishop is now the subject of a manhunt.
