Constitutional Court on a Visit to the Romanian Patriarchate

The Press Office of the Romanian Patriarchate informs us:

On 20 June 2012, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel received the visit of the members of the Constitutional Court of Romania on the occasion of the anniversary of 20 years of existence and activity of this basic institution of the Romanian State, as well as of 100 years since the affirmation of the control of the constitutional character on the laws of Romania.

On this occasion, the Patriarch of Romania addressed the judges of the Constitutional Court a message of blessing and congratulation in which he underlined the role and importance of this institution, “the guarantee of the supremacy of the Constitution”, the basic law which expresses the will of the people and ensures the good development of the lawful state.

In this context, His Beatitude appreciated the fact that “in a democratic society, the Constitutional Court has the duty to watch over the promotion of a legislation that unites freedom with responsibility for the welfare of the Romanian society. In this sense, the justice and Church can contribute, each of them according to its abilities to the moral and social healing of the Romanian people”.

Further on, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel awarded the Order of Saints Constantine and Helen the Emperors of the Romanian Patriarchate to the judges of the Constitutional Court as a sign of appreciation and esteem of the activity unfolded and of encouragement for the future activity. The Diploma of Honour of Saint Andrew the Apostle – Protector of Romania of the Romanian Patriarchate was awarded as a sign of appreciation too, to the collaborators, and assistant magistrates of the Constitutional Court.

President Augustin Zăgren thanked the Patriarch of Romania, in the name of the judges of the Constitutional Court, for the distinctions awarded and offered His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel the anniversary plaque issued by the Constitutional Court of Romania on the occasion of the anniversary of 20 years of existence and activity of this institution.
