“NO DUST SHOULD SETTLE ON OUR CULTURAL AND SPIRITUAL VALUES” SAYS HIS HOLINESS ARAM I
On Friday 8 June 2012, His Holiness Aram I inaugurated an exhibition dedicated to “Early Armenian Printed Books and Periodicals”. The exhibition was organized by the Seminary with the assistance of a committee of experts. Deacon Michael Sarkissian welcomed the large public and Mr. Jirair Tanielian, an expert on early printing history, spoke of the unique aspects of ancient Armenian books and media.
In his Pontifical Message, Catholicos Aram I spoke of the importance of the exhibition. First, he said, the exhibition pays homage to a remarkable figure, Hagop Meghabard (the Sinner), who published the first Armenian book in the early 16th century in Venice; it also honors all other early Armenian Church Fathers and lay writers as well as the public that read those works. Second, he stated his hope that the exhibition, which demonstrates the richness of our Armenian spiritual and cultural heritage, will inspire our youth to appreciate our unique culture and to read and be enriched by the values transmitted through the written works.
All visitors will receive an annotated bibliography of the ancient books currently found at the library of the Catholicosate of Cilicia.
