Cypriot Orthodox Church head asks for cooperation President Parvanov RE Cyprus Dispute

During the second day of his official visit to Cyprus the Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov met in Paphos with Archbishop Chrysostomos II. The head of the Cypriot Orthodox Church asked the president to talk with Bulgarian members of the European Parliament and with Bulgarian officials in the European institutions, so as to find ways to publicize the Cyprus Dispute in the institutions and in the European Parliament groups. President Parvanov said that Bulgaria’s position on the Cyprus Dispute had always been consistent. Bulgaria will be one of the factors for the solution to the Cyprus Dispute, the head of state said. He added that he would discuss the request with MEPs and with the new Bulgarian European commissioner.

President Georgi Parvanov met with the Bulgarian community in Cyprus. In unofficial data more than 30,000 Bulgarians live on the island. I am here to express the support of the Bulgarian state and institutions to our compatriots abroad – moral and political for the solution of your problems, the president said. He acquainted the participants in the meeting with the situation in Bulgaria.
