UOC Primate celebrated Divine Liturgy at St. George’s Church in Kyiv
On May 6, Sunday 4th after Easter and commemoration of St George, Metropolitan Volodymyr celebrated the Divine Liturgy at St. George Church, situated in the square in front of the Southern terminal of Kyiv railway station.
Concelebrating to His Beatitude were: Metropolitan Lazarus of Crimea and Simferopol, secretary for the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Archbishop Alexander, rector of St. George church and dean of Kyiv-Svyatoshyn district Archpriest Basil Rusynka, rector emeritus of the church Archpriest Nicholas Zabuha, fathers superior of the monasteries Archimandrite Anthony (serfs) of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Stauropegial Hlynka monastery, Archimandrite Nikon (Rusyn) of Transfiguration monastery (Kyiv Nova Petrivka), Archimandrite Gabriel (Anisimov)St. Paisius Velychkovsky Stauropegial monastery (Sevastopol, Morozivka village), together with Kyivan and parish clergymen.
During the Lesser Entrance of the archpastoral service His Beatitude Volodymyr conferred the privilege of wearing the second panagia on metropolitan Lazarus of Crimea on the occasion of 20th anniversary of primatial ministry Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine, the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church on the throne of Metropolitans of Kyiv and for the diligent service in the diocese of Crimea. In addition, His Beatitude awarded Father Superior of Hlynka hermitage Archimandrite Anthony (Kripak) the privilege of wearing the second cross, and awarded the Chairman of the Synodal department of the UOC for Pastoral Care of the penal (prison) system Archpriest Victor Yatsenko with the right to wear the decorated cross.
Also during worship Archpastor ordained to the holy priesthood the settler of Hlynka hermitage hierodeacon Alexius (Korovin).

St. George’s church was erected through the efforts of former Minister of Transport of Ukraine Georgiy Kirpa in record short time – within 72 days. Yet it took 40 more days to complete internal finishing of the temple.
Building of the church was dedicated to 10th anniversary of Independence of Ukraine and solemnly blessed and opened on August 22, 2001.
On March 2, 2003 St George Church was given the status of the cathedral of Railroad workers of Ukraine and was given portion of the relics of the Holy Great Martyr George.
