The Patriarch Visits Samegrelo Region

Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II met with internally displaced people in Zugdidi. The Patriarch expressed his hope to restore territorial integrity of Georgia and return all displaced people back to their homes in near future.
The Patriarch talked about recognition of Abkhazia and the so called South Ossetia by Russia. His Holiness underlined that was a big mistake by Russia. The Patriarch also stated that the whole orthodox community all over the world supports the Georgian Church within the borders recognized by the Ecumenical Church.
Later in the evening the Patriarch went to Khobi to attend traditional music festival “Songs on Samegrelo” organized upon blessing by His Holiness.
On the second day of the current visit in Samegrelo, His Holiness went to Transfiguration Church in Tsalenjikha, Samegrelo Region.
Monks presented St. George’s handmade icon to the Patriarch. His Holiness consecrated constructed St. George’s Church in Zugdidi.
