Patriarch Kirill to award Emir Kusturica for strengthening Orthodox Unity

Moscow, September 16, Interfax – World famous film director Emir Kusturica will be awarded with annual Patriarch Alexy II Prize introduced by the Unity of Orthodox Nations International Foundation.

Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia is to chair the ceremony on January 21, 2010 in the Hall of Church Councils of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow, the Foundation website has reported.

Kusturica wins the prize for outstanding work on strengthening unity of Orthodox peoples, for promoting Christian values in social life.

The other prizewinner 2009 is St. Vladimir’s Theological Seminary (the Orthodox Church in America.) Candidates for the Foundation’s prizes in other nominations 2009 will be considered later.
