Permanent Member of the Holy Synod of the UOC received academic degree of the Doctor of Philosophy

On September 11 on the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr the solemn ceremony of conferment of the diploma of the Doctor oft Philosophy and the pectoral Doctor’s Cross on Metropolitan Nicodemus of Kharkiv and Bohodukhiv, Rector of the Kharkiv Theological Seminary, Candidate of Theology, was conducted at the Metropolitan’s Residence of the Kharkiv Diocesan Administration. The degree was conferred on him by the decision of the Special Academic Council of the Theological Academy of Uzhgorod of Sts. Cyril and Methodius, at the session of December 26, 2008 on the overall basis of scientific theological works.

Before conferment of the doctoral distinctions, in his opening word the academy rector archpriest Victor Bed pointed out the prominent deserts of Metropolitan Nicodemus as one of the most reputable hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and prominent scholar-theologian and marked his historical role in the history of the orthodox Church, in particular during the convocation and conduct of the Council of the UOC in Kharkiv on May 1992.

Taking part in the ceremony of the conferment of the Doctor of Philosophy diploma also were : Archbishop Onuphriy of Izyum, Vicar of the Diocese of Kharkiv, clergy of the Diocese of Kharkiv and the students of the Kharkiv Theological Seminary, vice-rector for public relations of the Ukrainian Theological Academy of Uzhgorod Prof. archimandrite Havryil Kryzyna and others.

In his word of gratitude His Eminence Nicodemus thanked His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr for the high appreciation of his theological works and blessed the teacher professorial staff and the students of the Theological Academy for good labor in the name of the Orthodox Church by the icon of the Holy Martyr Paraskeva.

Archpriest Victor Bed also bestowed the medal of the Holy and Equal-to-the-Apostles Cyril and Methodius, 1st degree on Vladyka Nicodemus, and made a present of the print materials of the Academy – spiritual songs of the Carpathian region to the library of the Kharkiv Theological Academy and Seminary.
