The Syrian Expatriates Organization Condemns the Killing of the Father Basilious Nassar in Hama, Syria

The Syrian Expatriates Organization condemns the most recent killing of Father Basilious Nasser of the Greek Orthodox Church, in Hama, Syria on January 26 2012. Father Nassar was shot and killed on the second day of a heavy assault by Syrian forces over the city of Hama, as reported by CNN.

The Syrian Expatriates Organization is shocked by the reported news that Father Basilious Nasser of the Greek Orthodox Church, was shot and killed. He was reportedly trying to give first aid to a wounded man in Hama’s nearby town of Kafr Buhum, according to the Local Coordination Committees of Syria, an umbrella group of activists.

The Syrian Expatriates Organization would like to draw attention to the repeated assaults by the Syrian regime on religious figures, and worship places.

On August 27 2011, Security officials stormed the Al-Rifai Mosque in the Kafr Susseh district of Damascus. Activists reported at least 1 person was killed, and that the mosque’s imam, Shaykh Usama Al-Rifa’i was wounded. This assault also occured during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, and many worshipers were present in the mosque.

On March 23 2011, Syrian security forces killed at least six people during an attack on a mosque in the southern city of Deraa.

The Syrian Expatriates Organization extends its deepest condolences to the loved ones of Father Basilious Nassar, and to all people whose lives were touched by him. The Syrian Expatriates organization asks for an independent investigation into this crime.
